The whole French team is out of the tournament for the Grand Slam in Tbilisi. The French didn’t appear in the draw on Thursday whereas eventually 14 athletes were about the start in Tbilisi. After the positive test among the French at the Tbilisi Training Camp a drastic measure was taken to pull back the whole French team from Tbilisi.
Not only athletes from the Cuban team tested positive but many more athletes showed a positive test and despite a record of 465 athletes in Tbilisi, the French team withdraw.
The participation of 465 judoka is a record as in 2016 389 judoka from 67 nations competed….. in another era, as these are extreme circumstances for both the delegations as the IJF to manage.
At the first post covid Grand Slam in Budapest the whole Italian team was left out.
In Tbilisi not only the French pulled out, but also athletes from other nations tested positive.
