Are you using the internet safely? – British Taekwondo

February 9, 2021 by admin

Posted on 9th February 2021

Hi Everybody,

Today we celebrate Safer Internet Day.

The global theme for this year is “Together for a better internet” and the UK is focussing on:

An internet we trust: exploring reliability in the online world.

The campaign focuses on how we can know what to trust online, whilst supporting young people to question, challenge and change the online world. It will explore how influence, persuasion and manipulation can impact young people’s decisions, opinions and what they share online.

Resources including an online quiz can be found here.

Please feel free to use these resources within your club environment to highlight the importance of using the internet safely especially with an increased emphasis on internet usage during this difficult time.

We have also pulled out the top tips provided by the ‘UK Safer Internet Centre’ for all parents and coaches to share with their children/members to ensure safer internet usage.

Communication is the key to identifying online misinformation….

Talk regularly with your child about how they use technology and where they go for information online. Discuss who they follow, what types of adverts they see, and what stories they find surprising or suspicious. Listening to your child will give you the best possible idea of how you can support them. Not sure where to begin? Have a look at our suggested ‘Conversation Starters’ for parents and carers.

Show your child how you question and evaluate online content….

If you come across a fake news story, or get sent a phishing email, discuss with your child how you spotted it and what you did. Why not ask them for a second opinion? Your child may have already heard about it or seen something similar, and if not, it’s a learning opportunity for both of you. Seeing a parent actively question and evaluate online content teaches young people the importance of doing the same.

Fact-check and reflect before sharing content, posts or pictures….

It can be tempting to share surprising or attention-grabbing online content with your child or your family group chats, but make sure to fact-check these links before you do. As it’s come from a parent, some children may believe it without questioning it, and older children may find it difficult or awkward to point out if it is false or misleading. This is another chance to set a good example in how to share information responsibly online.

How does misleading information they see online make them feel?

False and misleading content online can be upsetting and confusing, e.g. harmful claims that target specific groups, or unhealthy lifestyle tips. Young people may feel powerless when faced with the amount of unreliable content they see. Regularly check-in with your child about their online life and ask them how what they see makes them feel. This is an issue that affects all of us. Reassure your child that you are there to talk about things that upset them and to support them with how they feel.

Ask other parents how they address misleading online content….

Just as we ask young people to talk about what they are unsure of, make sure you do too! Chances are that you’ll find other parents or carers who are trying to figure out how to help their family avoid false information and get the most out of the internet.

Find out how to get more support by visiting Childnet’s ‘Need Help?’ page. You can take steps to support your child online by using features such as making a report on a range of apps, games and services, and using privacy settings on social media.

We hope you find this information useful.

Telma Monteiro was appointed international ambassador for the Believe in Sport project, of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The Olympic medalist in Rio 2016 will play an important role in the training of his fellow athletes, through participation in training activities and the sharing of information and tools for protection against the manipulation of competitions.

“One of the plans I have is to take advantage of athletes’ meetings, or training webinars, such as those organized by the COP and IOC, in which we have all the athletes together and speak directly with them about these issues”, projects Telma Monteiro to the website Olympic Committee of Portugal (COP).

“I think that with this type of initiative, we can show different perspectives and show the importance of this issue. It is an honor for me to assume the role of ambassador for integrity. I believe in an honest sport and driven by the passion for the uncertainty of what can happen in every moment when athletes give their best ”, concludes Telma Monteiro.

Telma Monteiro will listen internationally to promote athletes’ awareness of the risks of manipulating competitions.

The IJF is also promoting clean judo. Judo is also an acknowledged educational tool and a way of life enriched by a moral code and ethic values that have firmly withstood the trial of life.

A clean and fair play sport is important to promote a better society, which can offer a direction in life to the young generations. Doping has no place within the world of Judo, neither does competition manipulation or match fixing.

YONEX ASTROX 88S & 88D (2018)

February 9, 2021 by admin

Guess people were right in saying Astrox will eventually replace Voltric to be the Power range
Here’s the latest racquet matrix by Yonex Japan:
http://www.yonex.co.jp/badminton/pdf/bad_racquets_selector.pdf

Note: this matrix does not include all models but only models available for sale in Japan
This is usually an indicator for which racquets are next to be eventually phased out globally
Also before anyone asks, the LDF was never on the matrix as it was a limited production racquet

PS. I hope Yonex can stop relying on ARC11 and bring out a new Control series by the end of this year
Just keep producing the breadwinner (like what they’ve done with ZF2) and release a new series alongside it
They honestly deceived us into thinking the AX77 was going to be the new control range when they got LYD to endorse it
Oh but wait, AX88 was designed alongside LYD too

At this point I reckon it’ll be better off if they just dedicated the Astrox series as Power/Control in the venn diagram but they didn’t do that for the need of product range distinction and they wanted to retire the Voltric series

Jon Jones pokes fun at Conor McGregor in reply to his Rolex Instagram post

  • When is Jon Jones competing in the UFC heavyweight division?

Jon Jones provoked Conor McGregor on Instagram after the Irishman added a picture of his new Rolex watch by remembering an old running joke between them.

Jon Jones, the newest UFC heavyweight contender, showed off his excellent memory and sportsmanship, commenting on McGregor’s Instagram post:

“The number two [Rolex] around,” wrote Jon Jones.

In 2016, when McGregor became the first UFC fighter to hold two weight divisions championships simultaneously, and Jon Jones was the light heavyweight champion, the two UFC superstars occupied the first and second spots in the promotion’s pound-for-pound rankings.

Having been ranked in the top position, McGregor mocked Jon Jones on several opportunities, including referring to their Rolex watches. In one of their UFC meetings, McGregor invited Jon Jones to display the luxurious accessory:

“My man, would you flash that [Rolex]?” McGregor asked from Jon Jones. “The No. 2 [Rolex] around.”

To which he replied:

“You know, we have got some [Rolex],” showed off Jon Jones before questioning: “Hey, what do you mean No. 2?”

McGregor comes from a defeat to Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 and currently is No. 15 in the UFC pound-for-pound rankings. Jon Jones remains in second spot, behind only Khabib Nurmagomedov.

When is Jon Jones competing in the UFC heavyweight division?

UFC president Dana White revealed that Jon Jones would probably make his heavyweight debut in a title fight against the winner of the fight between Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou. Speaking to BT Sport’s Adam Catterall, the UFC boss explained the promotion’s plans for the heaviest of the weight classes:

“Yeah, Francis deserves this shot, you know. And if you look at what Stipe has accomplished. It’s impossible not to call him the greatest heavyweight of all time. So to see him and Francis square off again. And if… imagine if he can beat Francis again, he will look like an absolute killer,” said White. “Then you would get Stipe and Jon Jones, or you would get Jon Jones versus Francis. I think he’s ready as soon as he sees what happens with the heavyweight championship. I think he would come in right now and fight for it, but you can’t jump over Francis. Francis has earned the shot.”

Would you prefer to see Jon Jones fighting Miocic or Ngannou? Sound off in the comments.
