LA County sheriff executes search warrant on vehicle totaled in Tiger Woods crash

March 3, 2021 by admin

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has executed a search warrant on the vehicle Tiger Woods was driving during his Feb. 23 wreck.

Per USA Today, the department is looking to obtain information from the totaled vehicle’s “black box” to see whether a crime was committed and led to the crash that landed Woods in the hospital with multiple severe injuries.

USA Today also reports that the sheriff’s department won’t be seeking a blood test to see whether Woods was impaired at the time of the crash, citing no probable cause.

“We’re trying to determine if a crime was committed,” sheriff’s deputy John Schloegl told USA Today. “If somebody is involved in a traffic collision, we’ve got to reconstruct the traffic collision, if there was any reckless driving, if somebody was on their cell phone or something like that. We determine if there was a crime. If there was no crime, we close out the case, and it was a regular traffic collision.”

The sheriff’s department indicates that the request for the search warrant is nothing more than “due diligence” to ensure that no crime was committed at the time of the crash.

Woods is recovering from multiple severe leg injuries that landed him in the operating room the day of the crash. Reports indicate that he was running late for a meeting with NFL quarterbacks Drew Brees and Justin Herbert when his vehicle rolled off the road in Los Angeles.

There’s is no timetable for Woods’ recovery, but conservative speculation indicates that it may take as long as a year for Woods to return to the course.

Woods, 45, was coming off a December back surgery that kept him away from the course. The surgery was the fifth he’s had on his back, and Woods was aiming for a return to the Masters this April.
