Denzel Bentley vs Felix Cash purse bid won by Queensberry, British and Commonwealth unification

February 10, 2021 by admin

Queensberry Promotions have won the purse bid for the ordered British and Commonwealth middleweight title unification between Denzel Bentley and Felix Cash. No further details — date, etc. — just yet, but it moves a terrific domestic UK clash forward.

The 26-year-old Bentley (14-0-1, 12 KO) and the 27-year-old Cash (13-0, 9 KO) are both very good domestic-level fighters at the least, and their styles should mesh for some good action, too. Both can punch, neither are afraid to get into a tear-up — it’s just a good fight, one that will surely air on BT Sport in the UK, and man, hopefully ESPN+ pick this one up for the US market.

Bentley fought three times in 2020, beating Mick Hall in July, going to a 10-round draw with Mark Heffron in September, and then stopping Heffron after the fourth round in their November rematch, where he won the vacant British title.

Cash, a Matchroom fighter, fought just the once in 2020, headlining one of Tall Ed’s backyard bonanzas in August with a fifth round stoppage of Jason Welborn. His last fight before that was an action-packed stoppage win over Jack Cullen in Nov. 2019.

This, combined with Matchroom’s Demetrius Andrade and Queensberry’s Liam Williams coming to terms for an April bout, keeps a good tone for Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren working together when they need to, which is valuable both for the biggest fights — like Fury-Joshua — and for domestic-level bouts where good matchups can be made that benefit fighters and fans alike. Nobody’s saying Hearn and Warren have to become best pals, but crossing over and working together is good for everyone.
