Chris Eubank Jr signs with Sauerland Promotion, calls out middleweight champions

January 10, 2021 by admin

Chris Eubank Jr has signed a “long-term” promotional deal with Team Sauerland, as the 31-year-old says he’s ready to face any of the titleholders in the middleweight division.

Eubank (29-2, 22 KO) hasn’t fought since a Dec. 2019 win over Matt Korobov, which came as a result of Korobov suffering a left shoulder injury in the second round. His last full night of action came in Feb. 2019, when he retired James DeGale in a 168-pound bout.

Eubank holds the interim WBA middleweight title right now, with Canelo Alvarez recently vacating the “super world” title finally, and Ryota Murata being promoted from “world” to “super world” by the organization.

Eubank seemed to be on a collision course with WBC titlist Jermall Charlo with Premier Boxing Champions, but that may no longer be the plan of attack.

“I’m thrilled to have signed a promotional deal with Team Sauerland,” said Eubank. “I look forward to working with such a historic stable that has created so many legends in the sport over so many years. I look forward to the big fights that I crave. I’ve spent the last 12 months in the gym and I feel better than ever.

“I’m ready to take over the middleweight division. I want all the champions — Murata, Charlo, (Demetrius) Andrade, (Gennadiy) Golovkin — put me in the ring with any of them. I only want to fight the best. This is my time. If you have a belt, I’m coming for you.”

For what it’s worth, Charlo (WBC) is with PBC, Murata (WBA) is with Top Rank, and both Golovkin (IBF) and Andrade (WBO) are with Matchroom and DAZN. Signing with Sauerland doesn’t necessarily make any of these fights harder to make.

“We’ve been long time admirers of Chris. He actually fought on one of our shows back in 2012 and we’ve followed his career closely since then,” said new promoter Nisse Sauerland. “He’s got all the attributes needed to establish his position as one of the biggest names in world boxing. Our first priority is cleaning out the Middleweight division.”
