High jumper Nicola McDermott the first Australian woman to clear 2m

April 18, 2021 by admin

Jye Edwards powered past Australian middle-distance superstar Stewart McSweyn, while high jumper Nicola McDermott conquered the two-metre barrier on a dramatic final day at the Olympic athletics trials.

The men’s 1500m is the most fiercely contested event on the Australian track and field program and the little-known Edwards took it to a new level on Sunday.

As expected, national record holder McSweyn surged away from the pack from the starters’ gun. What was less expected was that Edwards went with McSweyn and stayed on his shoulder, before surging to the front in the final straight.

Edwards’ winning time of three minutes 33.99 seconds guaranteed him a spot on the Olympic team.

“I was 95 per cent sure that is how the race would play out,” said the 23-year-old university student, who stripped almost one and a half seconds off his PB.

“[McSweyn] did all the work and I was lucky to be there with 100 metres to go. That would have been his game-plan and I had mine. To be able to come over the top, I was stoked. The hardest part was just being there.”

McSweyn was surprised by the strength of the headwind on the back straight, when Edwards was tucked in behind him. “He had a good sit,” said the versatile McSweyn. “It’s hard to do solo a full 1500 so I’m probably not quite there to be able to do it yet.”

McSweyn (3:34.55) has been pre-selected in the 5000m and 10,000m for Tokyo, although he may well choose to contest the 1500m instead.

Further muddying the waters, Oliver Hoare and Matthew Ramsden have also bettered the 1500m Tokyo standard, but there are only thee spots available.

Drawing inspiration from a biblical passage written on her left wrist, McDermott added 2cm to her personal best as she became the first Australian female high jumper to clear the two-metre barrier.

“What was written was fearless hearts are birthed in perfect love and that’s from Jesus and 1 John 4-18,” said the 24-year-old McDermott. “That’s been my verse because I was always scared of two metres. I knew in my body I could do a lot higher but the fear aspect of high jump is the thing that gets to you with the mind.”

Edwards and McDermott were among 15 Australians included on Sunday in an Australian track and field team for the Tokyo Olympics that could eventually number more than 70.

Dani Stevens, the 2009 world champion, will head to her fourth Games seeking an elusive first Olympic medal after winning a record 14th national Australian discus title.

Other athletes to guarantee their selection after winning their events at the trials on Sunday were Riley Day (women’s 200m), Liz Clay (100m hurdles), Catriona Bisset (women’s 800m), Brooke Stratton (women’s long jump) and Genevieve Gregson (women’s 3000m steeplechase).

Having already bettered the qualifying standard on several occasions, reigning Commonwealth champion Kurtis Marschall was also named, despite failing to clear a height in the men’s pole vault.

The women took center stage Saturday at the FIVB Cancun Hub as they completed pool play in the four-star pro beach volleyball event in the Mexico resort city.

It set up a Sunday schedule that puts American pairs Kerri Walsh Jennings and Brooke Sweat and Emily Stockman and Kelley Kolinske in a must-win winners-bracket match, while top-seeded Alix Klineman and April Ross are waiting for their round-two opponent.

Here is Sunday’s women’s schedule:

Mailen Deliz/Leila Martinez Cuba (31, Q19) vs. TBA

The men played just once Saturday on a day when the conditions were challenging, with temperatures in the high 80s and winds in excess of 20 mph.

Three of four American men’s teams —  Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena, Tri Bourne and Trevor Crabb, Chaim Schalk and Theo Brunner — won their first pool-play match, and will play for a first-round playoff bye Sunday.

Ross and Klineman had little trouble with Mexico’s Maria Quintero and Susana Torres (21-12, 21-15), but were challenged by Canada’s Heather Bansley and Brandie Wilkerson (19-21, 21-16, 15-10).

Walsh and Sweat, second to Ross and Klineman in the chase for the two USA Olympic berths, won in three in their opening-round match against Austria’s Lena Plesiutschnig and Katharina Schutzenhofer (17-21, 21-11, 15-8), but fell short against No. 3 Agatha Bednarczuk and Eduarda Lisboa Duda of Brazil (21-12, 21-19).

Kolinske and Stockman began with a straight set win over Argentina’s Ana Gallay and Fernanda Pereyra (21-12, 23-21), but couldn’t get by Swiss misses Nina Betschart and Tanja Huberli (22-20, 21-17).

Despite the conditions, there were few upsets Saturday, with six of the eight top seeds earning byes: Kleinman and Ross, Huberli and Betschart, Margareta Kozuch and Laura Ludwig, Melissa Humana-Paredes and Sarah Pavan, and Nadezda Makroguzova and Svetlana Kholomina.

Brazil broke through as No. 9 Talita Antunes and Taiana Lima of Brazil earned the bye after Spain’s Maria Carro and Paula Soria defeated No. 8 Zaira Orellana and Martha Revuelta of Mexico (21-11, 21-16).

Cuba surprised the field, with qualifiers Mailen Deliz and Leila Martinez upsetting No. 2 Mariafe Artacho and Taliqua Clancy of Australia (21-17, 13-21, 15-11) and then No. 18 Sanne Keizer and Madelein Meppelink of the Netherlands (21-15, 16-21, 15-10) for the bye.

On the men’s side, qualifiers Brunner and Schalk upset No. 2 Alison Cerutti and Alvaro Filho of Brazil (17-21, 21-18, 15-13). They will win the bye if they defeat Italy’s Daniele Lupo and Paolo Nicolai on Sunday morning.

Dalhausser and Lucena survived a tough Polish team, Piotr Kantor and Bartosz Losiak (21-15, 13-21, 15-11). Their second-round pool opponent is Brazil’s Gustavo Carvalhaes and Arthur Da Silva.

Bourne and Crabb won a pair of deuce sets to defeat Latvia’s Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Janis Smedins (17-21, 21-19, 16-14). Next up for Bourne and Crabb is Brazil’s Evandro Goncalves and Bruno Oscar Schmidt.

Taylor Crabb and Jake Gibb lost a tough pair of deuce sets to Switzerland’s Yves Haussener and Quentin Metral (25-23, 21-19).

Gibb and Crabb’s next opponent is Switzerland’s Mirco Gerson and Adrian Heidrich, with only the winner advancing to playoffs.

CSK v RR, IPL 2021 – Fan2Play Fantasy Cricket Tips, Prediction and Playing XI

April 18, 2021 by admin

Match Details

Chennai Super Kings square off against Rajasthan Royals in the 12th match of the 2021 season of the IPL and it will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on the 19th of April, 2021. The match will commence at 7:30 PM IST and it will be telecasted on the Stars Sports. Hotstar will be streaming the game live as well.

Preview

Both Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) have seen two opposite ends of the spectrum with respect to their bowling attacks. In their respective first games of this tournament, both bowling attacks travelled the distance and were carted around the Wankhede Stadium for fun. However, a little bit of help from the track with some grass and tackiness, both bowling attacks came to life and bounced back.

CSK’s bowling lacked bite in the first game. The Delhi Capitals (DC) openers were barely in any sort of trouble. But Deepak Chahar exploited the conditions beautifully in the second game against Punjab Kings (PBKS) and gave CSK the perfect start which ensured KL Rahul and co could get a mere 106/8.

For RR, it was Jaydev Unadkat who infused some life into the bowling attack after they were smacked for 221 runs against PBKS in their opening game. The Saurashtra left-arm seamer led the charge to contribute to a complete bowling performance which helped RR restrict Delhi to just 147/8.

Thus, both bowling attacks will be hoping to continue the good work. On the other hand, the top-order batting for both sides hasn’t had the best of starts this season. It is the middle-order that has come to the rescue after the openers’ failures for both teams so far. Ruturaj Gaikwad hasn’t looked comfortable while Faf du Plessis did get some runs in the last game but looked scratchy. Manan Vohra has had a couple of successive failures while Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler have had one game each at the top and the English duo haven’t fired either.

However, both middle-orders seem to have some solid firepower. On one side, there is Moeen Ali, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran while RR have the likes of Sanju Samson, David Miller, Riyan Parag, Rahul Tewatia and Chris Morris.

Meanwhile, CSK have the edge as far as head to head record is concerned and lead 14-10. But it was RR who won both the fixtures in the 2020 edition.

Probable Playing XIs

Chennai Super Kings: Robin Uthappa/Ruturaj Gaikwad, Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran/Dwayne Bravo, Lungi Ngidi, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar

Rajasthan Royals: Manan Vohra, Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson (c & wk), Shivam Dube, David Miller, Riyan Parag, Rahul Tewatia, Chris Morris, Chetan Sakariya, Jaydev Unadkat, Mustafizur Rahman

Captaincy Picks

Jos Buttler: It hasn’t been the best of starts for Jos Buttler this season. He struck a nice little 25 which came off just 13 balls in the first T20I but couldn’t really kick on and get that big score. And that came while batting at No. 4. In the second game, he batted at the top and scored a seven-ball two. However, Buttler is a quality player and he can be expected to bounce back strongly. Hence, he could be a good captaincy option.

Moeen Ali: It’s been just two games but Moeen Ali is showing his value in the side. The England off-spinning all-rounder has enjoyed batting at No. 3 and he has looked in solid touch. He scored 36 in the first game against DC before scoring 46 against PBKS. In addition to this, he has created quite a few opportunities with the ball. Thus, Ali might prove to be an effective choice as fantasy captain as he can contribute in all three facets of the game.

Navarrete-Diaz, more: Boxing TV schedule for April 20-24

April 18, 2021 by admin

FS1, 8:00 pm ET, Frank Martin vs Jerry Perez. PBC basically chucked this card into existence by all but pretending it’s not happening, same as we’ve seen them do with other FS1 cards. They’re clearly not very proud of what they’re offering to the point they don’t even seem to want people to watch. Martin-Perez is a matchup of unbeaten but unknown lightweights. Since PBC seem so disinterested in whether anyone pays attention to these shows, I might not. I’ll decide on the day of the fights. BLH may have live coverage.

Twitch, 6:00 pm ET, Ring City USA prelims. More on the lineup here. BLH will have live coverage.

NBCSN and Twitch, 9:00 pm ET, Jermaine Franklin vs Stephan Shaw, Jelena Mrdjenovich vs Erika Cruz Hernandez. Ring City USA is back, this time from West Point, NY, for what should be a unique atmosphere. Being honest, I’m not near as high on this card as I have been on other Ring City shows, but as far as matchup, the main event is still what the series promised: Fighters matched tough. Franklin and Shaw are both American heavyweight hopefuls, whatever that means to you. Mrdjenovich is defending her featherweight belt and could be looking to set up unification with Amanda Serrano. BLH will have live coverage.

DAZN, 2:00 pm ET, Sandor Martin vs Kay Prosper, Andoni Gago vs Gavin McDonnell. Matchroom Spain is back, two European title fights here at 140 and 126. As of now, Sergio Garcia (European champ at 154) is scheduled for a TBA non-title fight, and Kerman Lejarraga is set to face Jez Smith as he tries to rehab his career. BLH may have live coverage.

YouTube, 11:30 pm ET, Kenshiro Teraji vs Tetsuya Hisada. We’ll adjust this if the time is wrong, but based on the fight poster, this is airing as a matinee in Japan starting at 12:30 pm on April 24, which is 11:30 pm ET on April 23 in the US. But whatever the start time winds up being, we’ll be here. It’s free to stream legally on YouTube and Teraji is arguably the best 108 lb fighter in the world, defending his WBC belt against the game vet Hisada. BLH will have live coverage.

BT Sport (UK), 1:00 pm ET, Denzel Bentley vs Felix Cash, Callum Johnson vs Emil Markic. Once again doesn’t look there will be U.S. coverage for this one, not on the ESPN+ schedule as of now and no FITE PPV option or anything. Bentley-Cash is a great domestic matchup at 160 for the British and Commonwealth titles, and Johnson is getting back in action at 175, where he’s a contender. Anthony Yarde is also in action. If there comes a way to watch legally in the States, we will be here. I really hope there is, because I genuinely want to see Bentley-Cash live, it’s a good fight. (Even if we have to wind up going to, uh, Other Means, I will probably be here for coverage, but with that I can’t make any guarantees.) BLH may have live coverage.

ESPN+, 6:00 pm ET, Navarrete vs Diaz prelims. The normal prospect showcase fights and what have you. BLH will have live coverage.

FITE PPV, 7:00 pm ET, Jose Felix Jr vs Adalberto Borquez.

ESPN and ESPN+, 10:00 pm ET, Emanuel Navarrete vs Christopher Diaz, Edgar Berlanga vs Demond Nicholson. Navarrete defends his WBO featherweight title against Diaz, whose losses have come to Masayuki Ito in a 130 lb title fight, and to Shakur Stevenson when Diaz moved down to 126 looking for a new spark. Diaz is a decent fighter, but this isn’t the most incredible world title matchup by any means. Berlanga looks to keep his first round KO streak running — or not, at some point it’s going to be more beneficial long term to actually get some rounds in. Nicholson is a veteran who’s been around but is plenty hurt-able and has been stopped twice. Odds would seem decent Berlanga extends the run. BLH will have live coverage.

April 18, 2021 by admin

Hello everyone,

My current shoe sole is a little ripped off (only one side) as attached in picture. I plan to send it to shoe cobbler to sew and glue it.(to sab money and I'm a student) Do you think I should do it?
